Back in March, I launched Montag Publishing House, an online bookstore and future publishing company here on Substack. My announcement received positive feedback from subscribers and writers looking to one day be published, without the horrible experience of going through larger corporate entities that might turn them down because of their politics.
Montag Publishing House started fundraising by offering digital copies of popular and often times hard to find books within the public domain. The idea behind this was to offer something in turn for your support while I built the platform to begin publishing physical books. That way I didn’t feel as if I was stockpiling your contributions without a quick return on your investment, as these kinds of startups tend to do for long periods of time.
Things were going quite well and the first author from Substack to partner with Montag was Joshua T. Calkins-Treworgy, someone I have continued to work with and someone that will be featured on my main publication, Liberty Magazine, in October (more on that later in this newsletter). However, the early momentum came to a standstill, or so it seemed.
Not long after launching Montag, Stripe demonetized Liberty Magazine (LM) because of my politics. I had assumed, incorrectly it turned out, that Stripe had demonetized me, instead what they did was only demonetize Liberty Magazine. Months later Stripe was forced, under threat of lawsuit from a larger creator, to reverse their demonetization campaign and LM was re-monetized. After LM was re-monetized, I solely focused my efforts on that publication. What I forgot was that Montag had one monthly paid subscriber before Stripe demonetized LM and I had assumed they defunded my entire network. During that time, like a jackass, I never checked out Montag to see if the demonetization effected it as well. I was so caught up in being frustrated with Stripe that I never thought of that individual and that wasn’t right of me.
What I had not realized in that whole ordeal, was that Montag’s one paid subscriber had been paying $5/month for months. The amount was so small that it never caught my attention and it slipped through my financial observations. During these months I wasn’t looking at payments because at the time I only had one source of income from my full-time job and all of those finances were tracked through my employer’s payroll company.
So to Sam Hagen, a wonderful person that continued supporting me, when Montag is set up to begin printing books, I will offer you a handmade book of your choosing of no further cost to you, or if you would rather, I can give back your contributions in full. (If Sam doesn’t see this newsletter then I will send out a separate email to them).
Exciting Announcements!
I also have some announcements to make that I think you will all like to hear!
Liberty Magazine is going into print!
Liberty Magazine will be starting with a limited printed version available every month starting in October. Our first theme is the renewed Spirit of 76’ that we are seeing today in America with Donald Trump and the MAGA movement. The first edition of Liberty Magazine’s run will be distributed at local GOP, Libertarian, and Constitution Party events to advertise and create a grassroots support network for Liberty Magazine and all of the writers involved! You will also be able to view the articles on Liberty Magazine’s Substack page if you’re a subscriber.
I previously mentioned that Joshua T. Calkins-Treworgy will be featured on Liberty Magazine in October, well he’s not the only person that is going to be featured on LM. In addition to Joshua, I am also fortunate to be able to work with these fine talents:
- , a really talented pair of comic strip creators.
- , two brothers that excel at creating fiction and cultural critiques.
- , one of the founders and writers at the hilarious Gallows Humor.
- , one of my longest supporters and an excellent writer.
- , a fellow New Hampshire native and energetic writer.
Wyo RINO Rocket, a talented comic strip creator from the great state of Wyoming.
The Return of LM’s Resident Writers!
When Liberty Magazine was demonetized, the three writers that I had been working with and promoting decided to dedicate their time to other endeavors. And hey, I couldn’t blame them. The demonetization was a real kick in the nards, but good news is that we never really went our own ways.
, LM’s resident history writer, and , LM’s resident Christian focused writer, have both returned for the monthly release of LM’s new physical magazine!
New Writers Coming On Board!
Not only are Sy and Darrel coming back, I also have a friend of mine, Sean Francis, coming on board to write with us. And with him, possibly come two new writers. More on that at a later date, I promise.
Until Next Time
All of these announcements are making me crave a cigarette (don’t do drugs kids, it kills, but it you’ll also die looking like a bad ass). So stay tuned for new articles and if you haven’t subscribed to Liberty Magazine in order to check out all of the fine contributions of my colleagues, well you totally should, also I write there and that’s kind of exciting I guess.
Oh, and if you would like to be featured on Liberty Magazine, do not hesitate to reach out to me by commenting down below so I can promote your talents and we can all grow together! God Bless and thank you all again!
Montag Publishing House is brought to you by a very sexy and confident man that definitely doesn’t still sleep with a teddy bear.
Readers deserve well-crafted narratives that don't come with messages from only one Postmodernist perspective; I'm happy to help.
Congrats on getting things under way! Hope all goes well for you!
